A social partnership learning journey for future products
Transformation is currently on everyone's lips, including at the company Brehm. Since the 1990s, Brehm has increasingly specialized in the machining of electroplated aluminum turned parts with increasingly complex geometries. These components are largely installed in automatic transmissions, which means the dependence on the combustion engine is immense.
In order to tackle the challenging path of transformation together, a social partnership learning journey was initiated, consisting of members of management, the works council, IG Metall, and experts from ZSW (Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg), as well as ISF (Institute for Social Science Research). The goal of this learning journey was to identify new business areas, especially in the field of alternative drive technologies, to get to know the technologies better, and to establish contacts in the industries.
The special feature of this approach was that the strategy, in contrast to conventional business model development, was not developed only internally or with the inclusion of theoretical experts, but together with research institutes and in direct exchange with potential customers. In addition, the social partners and the entire workforce were actively involved in the design process.
During the visit to ZSW and the HyFaB research factory, the current state of research in hydrogen technology and fuel cell technology was reviewed, and the market for turned parts in electrolyzers, fuel cell drives, and the hydrogen combustion engine was discussed. During a subsequent visit to the company Cellcentric, the production of fuel cell systems could be directly experienced and feedback from practice on the previously developed approaches was obtained. The same approach was then carried out in the field of electromobility and in an exchange with the company IVECO. Particularly in the area of thermal management, but also in other peripheral components of the battery, interesting applications for turned parts could be identified.
Our aspiration is to use our core competencies to help shape alternative drive technologies and drive innovation forward. In doing so, we offer you more than just contract turning. We accompany your projects with our process know-how from the development phase to series production. Our in-house special machine construction builds tailor-made automation solutions for our production and develops assembly machines for your assemblies. In doing so, we always place great value on the highest precision.
Let us shape the future together!
